There are almost a million ways to define a virtual power plant. So, I’m going with a broad stroke: Using varied sources—from distributed generation to energy efficiency—to take the place of traditional fossil-fueled, heavy production power generation. In terms you and I understand, this means the big power plant you pass on country roads that looks, at night, lit up like a terrestrial constellation, will become less important to the power equation. Are we ready for that?
