ScottMadden to Issue New Energy Industry Update: Transmission Development

In its upcoming Energy Industry Update, ScottMadden, Inc., a leading general management consulting firm, will examine a number of hot topics, including transmission development in the wake of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Order 1000.

In this upcoming issue, ScottMadden will look at drivers of transmission development and whether or not FERC’s Order 1000 will make a difference in moving such development forward:

Drivers: Continued development of renewable power, environmentally-driven potential retirement of a significant portion of the U.S. coal-fired generation fleet, and aging infrastructure all contribute to the need for new power transmission capacity.

Order 1000: It was intended to help provide guidelines for regional decision making on project prioritization, siting, and cost allocation. Will it make a difference?

“The issues of cost allocation and regional planning still inhibit the development of needed transmission," said Cristin Lyons, partner and leader of ScottMadden’s transmission, distribution, and smart grid practice. “These issues will only grow more acute as coal-fired generation, much of which is needed for grid support, is retired.”
